Penne With Meat Sauce And Okra

  Ingredients List:

  • 1/2 lb ground beef
  • 300g penne pasta
  • 1 onion
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2 carrots
  • 1-1/2 cups crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cups baby okra
  • Bunch of parsley
  • 1/4 cup Greek extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt & pepper to taste


  1. Place water to boil  in a  large pot for the  pasta
  2. In a large pan, brown ground beef in the olive oil
  3. Slice the  onion and add to browning beef
  4. After 5 minutes chop and add the garlic
  5. Cook for 3 minutes and add the cinnamon
  6. Chop the carrots and add to the meat mixture
  7. After about 10 minutes add the crushed tomatoes and water
  8. At this point add your pasta to the boiling water AND the okra to the meat sauce
  9. Simmer for about 6 minutes or until the pasta is a little under done and the carrots have softened
  10. Now add the pasta to the okra meat sauce and finish cooking until pasta is done 


Notes & Tips:
  • Makes 4 portions
  • Serve immediately
  • Garnish with Greek kefalotyri
  • NOTE: The YouTube video doesn't show the garlic being added BUT the recipe definitely calls for garlic
  • Can be made ahead and easily frozen
  • Recipe can be doubled
