Greek Meatballs

  Ingredients List:

  • 1-1/2 lbs. ground beef
  • 2 onions
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1 egg
  • 4 cups chopped bell peppers
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1-1/2 cups crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup water
  • Bunch of parsley
  • Bunch of mint
  • 1 tsp. dried Greek oregano 
  • 1/3 cup Greek extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt & pepper to taste
 

Method:

  1. Pre-heat oven to 425*f/220*c
  2. Finely chop 1 onion, herbs and garlic
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, egg and the ingredients in step 2
  4. Form into equal sized meatballs (see video)
  5. In a large sauce pan, brown meatballs in med-hi heat
  6. Slice 2nd onion and add to pan cooking for 3 minutes 
  7. Add chopped peppers and cook for 3 more minutes
  8. Add crushed tomatoes, water and cinnamon
  9. Stir to combine and cook for another 5 minutes
  10. Sprinkle with oregano and bake at 425*f for about 20-25 minutes

 

Notes & Tips:
  • Makes 4-12 portions depending on if served as app. or main
  • Garnish with crumbled feta cheese and fresh parsley
  • Can be served on its own with fresh crusty Greek bread or with rice, potatoes or pasta
  • Can be frozen
