Baklava Cinnamon Rolls

  Ingredients List:

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cinnamon stick
  • 2 cloves
  • 1 cup walnuts
  • 1/2 cup almonds
  • 2 tbsp. cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 2 puff pastry sheets
  • 259g cream cheese
 

Method:

  1. Pre-heat oven to 350*f/160*c
  2. In a small sauce pan over med-hi heat, add the water, 1/2 cup sugar. the cinnamon stick and cloves
  3. Bring to a boil, simmer for 5 minutes and set aside
  4. In a food processor, add the walnuts, almonds, 1 tbsp. cinnamon and 1/4 cup sugar
  5. Process until the consistency of fine wet sand
  6. Place 1 puff pastry sheet on your work surface
  7. Brush pastry sheet liberally with butter 
  8. Sprinkle remaining cinnamon over entire sheet
  9. Sprinkle remaining sugar over entire sheet
  10. Sprinkle crushed nut mixture over entire pastry sheet setting 2-3 tbsp. aside
  11. Place 2nd puff pastry sheet exactly over the first to create a sandwich of sorts
  12. Firmly press down top pastry sheet 
  13. Carefully roll puff pastry sheets into a log shape
  14. Carefully cut log into 10 pieces (about 1" thick)
  15. Butter baking pan
  16. Place cut rolls flat in the pan
  17. Dab with a little butter, sprinkle a little crumbled nut mixture  and bake for 45-60 minutes until GBD*
  18. In a mixing bowl, combine cream cheese and syrup and mix until smooth
  19. Cover cinnamon buns completely with cream icing and enjoy!!!

 

Notes & Tips:
  • Makes 10-12 pieces
  • Instead of icing, just pour syrup over and serve with ice cream
  • Or you can just ice it AND serve with ice cream
  • GDB* = golden brown and delicious
