Easy Greek Baklava Twists

  Ingredients List:

 Syrup:

  • 3 cups water
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 5 cloves
  • 1 cinnamon stick

 Twists:

  • 1-1/2 cups walnuts
  • 1/2 cup almonds
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tbsp. cinnamon
  • Flour as needed for board
  • Puff pastry (x2 sheets)
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
 

Method:

  1. Pre-heat oven to 400*f/200*c
  2. In a small pot, combine all the ingredients for the syrup and bring to a boil
  3. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes
  4. Remove from heat and set aside
  5. In a food processor, add the walnuts, almonds, sugar and cinnamon
  6. Pulse to chop nuts and combine ingredients
  7. On a flat surface, dust with flour and lay out the bottom puff pastry
  8. Brush entire surface of puff pastry with melted butter
  9. Evenly spread the crushed nuts mixture over entire area leaving 2-3 tablespoons for garnish
  10. Place second pastry sheet over nuts and with a rolling pin, roll to  compress the 2 pastry sheets together
  11. Brush entire surface of the top  pastry with melted butter
  12. Using a pizza cutter, cut puff pastry into 1"x3" rectangles
  13. Once rectangles have been cut, twist ends in opposite directions (see video)
  14. Bake @ 400*f for about 25-35 minutes
  15. Once done, place hot twists in the syrup to completely coat but not to become soggy
  16. Garnish with remaining nut mixture

 

Notes & Tips:
  • Makes 15-18 pieces
  • Make syrup first and let it cool before using
  • Add cool syrup immediately after removing twists from oven
