Easy Greek Kataifi

  Ingredients List:

  • 3-1/2 cups sugar
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 5 whole cloves
  • 1 lb. kataifi phyllo
  • 2 cups almonds
  • 1 cup walnuts
  • 1 tbsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
 

Method:

  1. Pre-heat oven to 350*f/160*c
  2. In a saucepan, add 3 cups sugar, water, cinnamon stick, honey and cloves.
  3. Bring to a boil, simmer for 5 minutes and then set aside
  4. Divide kataifi phyllo into 2 equal parts
  5. In a 9"x13" baking pan, spread 1/2 the shredded phyllo evenly
  6. In a food processor, add walnuts, almonds, remaining sugar and 1 tbsp. ground cinnamon and process until coarse
  7. Evenly pour over and spread on kataifi phyllo in baking pan
  8. Spread the other 1/2 of the kataifi phyllo over the chopped nut misture
  9. Score kataifi into desired pieces
  10. Drizzle over the melted butter and bake at 350*f for 1 hour or until top is golden brown
  11. Immediately pour over cooled syrup

 

Notes & Tips:
  • Makes 12 pieces
  • Add syrup immediately after baking
  • If it dries out the next day, simply make and add more syrup
