Greek Fried Cod | Traditional Battered Cod Recipe

  Ingredients List:

  • 1 lb. cod filets
  • 1 cup self rising flour
  • 1 cup club soda
  • 1 tsp. paprika
  • 1 tsp. red wine vinegar
  • 1 cup all purpose flour for dredging
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Salt & pepper to taste


  1. In a mixing bowl combine self rising flour, club soda, paprika, vinegar & season and mix well
  2. Place batter in refrigerator for about 10 minutes
  3. Pre-heat oil in a large pan
  4. Once batter is ready give it a slight stir
  5. Pour a/p flour into flat dish
  6. Coat fish with all purpose flour, dip in batter to thoroughly coat and carefully drop in to fry
  7. Turn when cod is golden brown (about 6-8 minutes per side)
  8. Repeat until all fish is cooked
  9. Place fried fish onto paper towel lined plate immediately after frying to absorb any excess oil


Notes & Tips:
  • Recipe can be x2 or x3 depending on amount of cod
  • Serve with skordalia, Greek salad, tzatziki, veggies or even tartar sauce
