Greek Meat Pie

  Ingredients List:

  • 2 puff pastry sheets
  • 1-1/2 lbs. ground beef
  • 1/8 tsp. cumin
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 6 mushrooms
  • 1 onion
  • 150g feta cheese
  • 150g feta cheese
  • 4 tbsp.  Greek extra virgin olive oil
  • Water 
  • Sesame seeds
  • Salt & pepper to taste
 

Method:

  1. Pre-heat oven to 400*f/200*c
  2. In a sauce pan, brown ground beef in olive oil
  3. Add finely chopped onions and continue to saute
  4. Add cumin and bay leaves and saute for 3 more minutes
  5. Finely chop and add mushrooms and saute for another 3 minutes
  6. In a baking pan, spread and place 1 puff pastry sheet on the bottom
  7. Fill with meat filling and spread evenly in pan
  8. Crumble feta evenly over meat filling
  9. Cover with 2nd. puff pastry sheet
  10. Cut 4 vent slits on the top crust (see video)
  11. Baste top puff pastry sheet with water and lightly sprinkle with sesame seeds
  12. Bake at 400*f for about 35-45 minutes or until golden brown and flaky 

 

Notes & Tips:
  • Makes 4-16 servings
  • Allow to cool for 20 minutes before cutting
  • Serve with a side salad
