Greek Meat Sauce & Pasta Pie | Makaronopita Me Kima

Ingredients List:
- 1 lb. lean ground beef
- 1 onion
- 1/4 cup Greek extra virgin olive oil
- 300g penne or #2 spaghetti
- Chili flakes (optional)
- 1 garlic clove
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
- 1 tsp. cumin
- 1 tsp. dried Greek oregano
- 2 cups crushed tomatoes
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 pkg. puff pastry (1 lb.)
- Flour for board as needed
- 100g feta cheese
- 50g kefalograviera cheese
- Salt & pepper to taste

Method:
- Pre-heat oven to 400*f/200*c
- Bring to a boil a large pot of water for pasta
- Brown ground beef in a large saucepan with olive oil
- Chop onion and garlic and add to browning beef
- Add all the spices and oregano and continue to saute for 3 more minutes
- Boil pasta to desired doneness
- To saucepan with ground beef add the crushed tomatoes and water stirring well
- Simmer for about 10 minutes
- On a clean working surface, roll out bottom layer of puff pastry and place on the bottom of 9"x13" baking pan and set aside
- In a large mixing bowl, combine drained pasta and meat sauce stirring well to evenly combine
- Crumble in feta and stir once more
- Pour mixed pasta into baking pan and spread for even layering
- Sprinkle with kefalograviera and place top puff pastry sheet over entire pan
- Cut 5-6 slits in the top puff pastry to allow for steam to escape
- Tuck excess top puff pastry into the sides of the pan and bake for 25-35 minutes or pastry is golden brown

Notes & Tips:
- Makes 6-8 portions
- Allow to stand for at least 20 minutes after baking
- Substitute listed cheeses for your own
- Can be made ahead and frozen before and after baking
