Greek Bread Pudding

  Ingredients List:

  • 1-1/2 cups water
  • 1-1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • Juice of 1/2 a lemon


  • Tsoureki
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • Juice of 1/2 a lemon 
  • 1-1/2 cups fine semolina
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 6 cups milk
  • 1/3 cup shaved almonds


    1. Pre-heat oven to 350*f/160*c
    2. In a small saucepan, add first 4 ingredients and bring to a rolling boil
    3. Simmer for 5 minutes and set aside
    4. In a mixing bowl, add eggs and sugar and mix well
    5. Add vanilla and lemon juice and continue to mix
    6. Add semolina, mix for 3 minutes and add milk
    7. Mix for 5-6 minutes
    8. While custard is mixing, cube tsoureki into 1" pieces and place in pan
    9. Sprinkle with raisins and mix to evenly distribute the raisins
    10. Pour custard mixture from mixing bowl into another saucepan and slowly heat until thickened stirring constantly
    11. Once thickened to the consistency of a gravy, pour over tsoureki in the pan
    12. Level mixture for even baking
    13. Sprinkle with almonds on top
    14. Bake at 350*f for about 45 minutes
    15. Once removed from oven, cut little slits with a knife throughout the top of the bread pudding and pour cooled syrup over entire cake (see video)


    Notes & Tips:
    • Makes 10-15 servings
    • Can be served heated or cold
    • If you don't have tsoureki, use regular bread
    • Walnuts can also be added (1/2 cup)
    • Goes great with ice cream (my personal fave)
