Hilopites with Beef and Vegetables

  Ingredients List:

  • 2 lbs. beef (flank steak)
  • 1-1/2 cups hilopites pasta
  • 1/3 cup Greek extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 onion
  • 1 tbsp. tomato paste
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 clove
  • 1 carrot
  • 5 cups water
  • 1 cup peas
  • Salt & pepper to taste
 

Method:

  1. Cut beef into bite sized pieces
  2. In a large pot add olive oil and brown beef
  3. Chop onion and add to pot sauteing until translucent
  4. Add cinnamon. clove and tomato paste and continue cooking for another 3-4 minutes
  5. Chop and add carrot to pot along with water
  6. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 1 hour
  7. Add hilopites & peas and cook for 5-10 minutes or until pasta is done

 

Notes & Tips:
  • Makes 4-6 servings
  • Serve with mizithra, kefalotyri or parmesan
  • Add chili pepper or sriracha sauce for added spice
  • Can be frozen and re-heated
